With each of the Damacore® grades we alter the core to give distinctive looks. The outer layers consists of RWL34™ and PMC27™ which are well known steel grades for knife making. Today you can choose between DC18N, with N11X™ as core and DC21R, with RWL34™ as a core.
Damasteel’s stainless Damascus patterned steel, Damacore® DC18N is a powder metallurgy-based steel with three different alloys. The center core consists of N11X™, a high nitrogen steel with distinctive properties. Through a process route based on powder metallurgy a high nitrogen steel is produced, most of the carbon is substituted by nitrogen, modifying the traditional chromium carbides into vanadium nitrides. This gives N11X™ unique properties a combination of hardness, wear resistance, ductility, and corrosion resistance. Damasteel’s stainless Damascus patterned steel, Damacore® DC21R is a powder metallurgy-based steel with two different alloys. The center core consists of RWL34™, a particular successful product with very high strength and toughness combined with extreme edge sharpness. The Damascus patterned outer layers consists of RWL34™ and PMC27™.
The addition of Molybdenum in RWL34TM gives our Damascus patterned steel a higher corrosion resistance compared to standard martensitic stainless steels. The two alloys combined in Damasteel’s process gives the Damacore® DC21R a beautiful bright look and a mirror finish core.
