Introducing the Damasteel Nordic Skates
There is a sound that anyone who has skated on natural ice knows by heart.
It begins as a whisper, a long, clean shhhhh as the blade bites and glides. Then comes the ring, the faint singing of ice beneath you, carrying across a frozen lake in the quiet of a winter morning. No engine, no noise, nothing but you, the cold air and the swoosh of steel on ice.
We have spent our lives making steel. And we have never stopped loving that sound.
Where it began
At Damasteel, we know what steel can become in the right hands. We know its patterns, its strength, its character. We also know the joy of the ice: the first stride on a fresh, black lake, the sun low over the water, the way your breath hangs in the air while the world falls silent.
At some point, those two passions had to meet.
So our team set out to build something for the love of it: Nordic skates, made the way we believe they should be. Not to fill a gap in a catalogue, but because we wanted to see what happened when we poured everything we know into a single blade.
Steel that moves like poetry
A Nordic skate is simple in its purpose and demanding in its craft. It has to be strong enough to carry you across kilometres of open ice and refined enough to carve a line as clean as a pen stroke.
Our blades are forged in Damasteel, with the flowing, unmistakable pattern work that has made our steel known around the world. Look closely and you’ll see it: rippling lines, deep contrasts, a surface that seems to move even when it’s still. It is the same beauty you see in the ice itself, in frost on glass, in the grain of the water as it freezes.
On the ice, they do what they were made to do. Push off, and the blade bites. Glide, and the world slows. Every stride becomes longer, every turn smoother, and that soft, rushing sound rises beneath you like the lake itself is applauding. Damasteel’s Nordic skates have a free heel skate based on the Pikmakarn Black with the ability to adjust the binding laterally. This allows you to fine-tune the skates for perfect balance and reduce the force that can otherwise want to wiggle your foot sideways while skating.
The joy of it
Skating is one of the oldest freedoms we know. It is the feeling of flying with your feet on the ground. It is a cold cheek and a warm heart, a winter horizon that opens wider with every stride. It is gliding past frozen reeds in the blue light of late afternoon, with nothing ahead but ice and sky.
